What makes a great day out? How we curate Sunnr experiences
· 2 min read · The Sunnr team
Open any events app and you will find ten thousand things to do. That is the problem. Infinite listings mean the work of figuring out what is actually good lands on you, and most of us respond to that workload the same way: we scroll, we save three things, we stay home.
Sunnr takes the opposite bet. Fewer activities, every one of them hand-picked. Here is what "hand-picked" actually means.
The test: do strangers leave closer?
A great restaurant is not automatically a great Sunnr activity. Our bar is social, not aesthetic: an experience earns its place when a group of people who have never met can finish it feeling like they know each other.
That single test explains most of our choices. It is why a riverside walk with a clear route beats a crowded rooftop bar, why a cooking class beats a cinema screening, and why "winners stay on" pickup games are a staple. Conversation needs raw material. The best activities manufacture it.
Our five curation rules
1. There has to be something to do with your hands or feet. Walking, cooking, throwing, planting, playing. Shared motion dissolves social friction faster than any icebreaker.
2. It has to work for someone who came alone. If an activity only functions for groups who arrive together, it fails the brief. Solo joiners are the heart of Sunnr.
3. The cost has to be honest. Every plan states its arrangement up front: free, pay your share, host pays, or you treat. Nobody should discover the bill's logic at the table.
4. It needs a natural end. Two to three hours with a clean finish beats an open-ended hang. Clear endings make saying yes easier, and leave people wanting a next time.
5. A real person has checked it. Venues change, trails flood, that charming market moves. Curated means a human stands behind the listing, not an algorithm scraping a directory.
Curators are accountable, and visible
Every curated experience carries its curator's name and the gold seal. That is deliberate. When a person puts their name on a recommendation, the recommendation gets better. Curators on Sunnr are locals, hosts and partners who know their city well enough to vouch for a plan, and their reputation rides on every one.
Members bring the plans to life: you pick an experience, choose your date, decide solo or squad, and raise a connect request. The curation gives you a worthy starting point. The day out is yours.
Start with one
If you are new here, do not overthink it. Open Activities, pick whichever one made you pause, and join or host your first plan. The whole catalog passed the same test before it reached you: strangers in, something like friends out.
That is the Sunnr promise. Life is sunnier on this side.
